Oprah's Book Club
Oprah's Book Club started out as a feature on an episode of her talk show during the 1996 season. Any time a book is mentioned on Oprah's show, the sales often reach the millions. "The Oprah Effect" is a term coined to describe this phenomenon. When Oprah decides on a book to feature on her show she will often cover discussion on the book as well as interviews with the author to really go into depth. When Oprah first started out with the book club she may of featured as many as 11 books a year, but that number gradually decreased, and in 2006 she only had one book on her book club list.
